Live and act

Heinrich Theodor Sölling came from a long-established merchant family. After completing his school education, he worked in a commercial position and became a co-owner of the Essen company Arnold Theodor Sölling & Co. and the shipping company of the same name in Rotterdam .

From 1840 to 1848 Sölling was a city councilor for the city of Essen. In 1841 he was a co-founder of the Sparkasse Essen, and consequently from January 21, 1841 to December 31, 1847 its first rendant . This resulted in membership in the Sparkasse Board from 1848 to 1866, where he himself was Chairman of the Board from 1851 to 1866.

In 1841 Sölling also became a deputy member of the Essen Chamber of Commerce, of which he was president from 1844 to 1847.

In the capacity of first alderman (unpaid) of the city of Essen, from 1853 to 1865, he temporarily led the city's official business from October 1, 1858 to April 27, 1859. The reason was that the mayor Johann Heinrich Horstmann had resigned early for personal reasons, and his elected, only 26-year-old successor Ernst Heinrich Lindemann took office on April 28, 1859.

Sölling also represented the Protestant parish and was its presbyter for many years.

Heinrich Theodor Sölling was first buried in the cemetery at Kettwiger Tor . After its closure in 1955, the grave was moved to the Ostfriedhof Essen .
