Heinrich V. flower rust

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich V. Blumentrost (* in Burgwindheim ; † January 16, 1455 in Ebrach ) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach from 1447 to 1455 .

Life

Heinrich V. Blumentrost was born in the second half of the 14th century or in the first half of the 15th century in Burgwindheim in Upper Franconia . The sources are silent about the parents of the future abbot, and the siblings of the young Heinrich are also not mentioned. School education is also in the dark, but studying at a university is likely due to Blumentrost's later career.

The monk Heinrich only reappeared in the sources with his election as the twenty-fifth abbot of the Cistercian monastery of Ebrach. His predecessor Heinrich IV. Wild had resigned and the convent was urgently looking for a successor. In 1447 Heinrich Blumentrost was elected as the new prelate. He had distinguished himself through his eloquence and his excellent reputation as a clergyman; he was a baccalaureus in theology.

Despite the important election, Heinrich V's term of office ended almost without knowledge of the sources. He was appointed, probably by the superiors of his order, as a visitor to the Cistercian monasteries in Eastern Franconia , which some of his predecessors and successors also succeeded in doing. In addition, he was appointed as overseer for the Hungarian and Bavarian monasteries. Abbot Heinrich V. Blumentrost died on January 16, 1455 as a result of a fall.
