from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Burkard II. Scheel (also Burchard II. Schul ; † December 13, 1474 in Ebrach ) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach from 1455 to 1474 .

Life

Scheel was born in the second half of the 14th century or in the first quarter of the 15th century. His place of birth is unknown, he probably came from a place near the Ebrach monastery. Scheel's parents are not mentioned in the sources, and any siblings are also not mentioned. Scheel probably attended Latin school and then went to university .

After the death of his predecessor Heinrich V. Blumentrost at the beginning of 1455, the convent elected Burkard Scheel as abbot Burkard II in the same year. The new prelate immediately began refurbishing the monastery church, thus acquiring several new jewels and monstrances . Abbot Burkard sent several monks to other monasteries to take over the abbot here. Heinrich Scholl became abbot of the Szentgotthárd monastery in Hungary, Johannes Pluchel in Aldersbach in Lower Bavaria and Johann IV Poley in Heiligenkreuz, Austria . Abbot Burkard died on December 13, 1474.
