Heinrich Wilthelm

Heinrich Wilthelm (born November 17, 1913 in Bochum , † November 19, 1969 ) was a German artist.

Life

Wilthelm studied art at the Folkwang School in Essen and at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf . He was a student of Ewald Mataré . From 1939 to 1945 he was drafted as a soldier. In 1943 his wife died in a bomb attack. His works were lost. He returned home in 1947.

In the post-war period, Wilthelm created, among other things, the “Phoenix” mosaic for the old main entrance of the Bochum State Gymnasium , the windows of the Marienkirche in Bochum , the glass mosaics at the Annette von Droste Hülshoff School and the “Glass and Iron” window at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Georg Agricola . Other works included woodcuts, linocuts and Bible illustrations. At times Wilthelm was a member, and at times chairman of the Bochumer Künstlerbund .
