Heinz-Joachim Aris

Heinz-Joachim Aris (born on May 7, 1934 in Dresden ; died on March 24, 2017 there ) was a member of the Presidium of the Central Council of Jews in Germany , Chairman of the Saxony Regional Association of Jewish Communities and Managing Director of the Dresden Jewish Community .

Life

Heinz-Joachim Aris was the son of Helmut Aris and Susanne, née Reinfeld. As a child, he experienced the bombing of Dresden in World War II, which saved his family with him from deportation. He studied economics at the University of Leipzig and worked in leading positions in industry.

From 1992 to 2012 Aris was the managing director of the Dresden Jewish Community and, since 2002, chairman of the Saxony State Association of Jewish Communities. In 2002 he was elected to the board of directors of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, and since 2006 he has been a member of the presidium with an interruption of one and a half years.

Aris was a member of the Broadcasting Council of Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk and, since 2011, the Foundation Council of Saxon Memorials and the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe . Since 2007 Aris has been a deputy member of the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Museum Berlin .

In 2012 he was awarded the Saxon Order of Merit.

Heinz-Joachim Aris was buried in the New Jewish Cemetery.
