Heinz-Ulrich Schulze

Heinz-Ulrich Schulze (born March 10, 1949 ) is a former German athlete who specialized in the decathlon .

career

In his youth, Schulze belonged to the athletics department of the BSV Grün-Weiß Flüren from Flüren on the Lower Rhine, which was incorporated into Wesel in 1969 . In the decathlon discipline, he was twice German youth champion and twice junior champion. In 1969 he graduated from the Konrad-Duden-Gymnasium in Wesel.

At the German Athletics Championships in 1971 , he won the bronze medal in third place in the decathlon. With 8,043 total points based on the points table from 1965, he also achieved his personal best in this competition. The German championship held in July was followed by the European Athletics Championships in 1971 . Schulze, who continued to compete for the BSV Grün-Weiß Flüren, finished fourth in the decathlon. The first placed Joachim Kirst from the GDR was clearly superior to the competition, but Schulze's performance was positively received by the press. In the run-up to the 1972 Summer Olympics , Schulze sustained an injury in the pole vault that ended his career in competitive sports.
