Heinz Berner

Heinz Berner (born June 23, 1917 ) was a German football player who played 54 games in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , for Rotation Dresden from 1950 to 1952 .

Athletic career

Berner won the Saxon soccer cup with SG Dresden-Mickten in 1949 and the Saxon soccer championship in 1950. In the decisive game for the championship on April 10, 1950 against SG Lauter, Berner played the left runner in the 3-1 victory . As a Saxon master, the SG Mickten participated in the promotion games to the GDR Oberliga. With four wins, three draws and one defeat, the Dresdner, who were connected to the company sports community (BSG) Sachsenverlag Dresden during the promotion games , won the promotion round. Berner contributed one of the 21 goals scored. After the successful round of promotion, the Dresdeners played in the league from 1950/51 and competed there under the new name BSG Rotation. The 33-year-old from Bern belonged to the top division squad and was appointed team captain. In his first league season he played 32 of the 34 played point games, in which he was mainly used in midfield, but several times as a striker. In the following season, Berner played all the point games from the 1st to the 22nd matchday and was used as a central midfielder throughout. After the 22nd matchday he was excluded from the league team for disciplinary reasons. Then he no longer appeared in higher-class football. In the mid-1950s, he was the trainer for the third-rate regional league team at Motor Radeberg , and later at the Dürrröhrsdorf fifth-division team, Rotation Wesenitztal.
