Heinz Eger

Heinz Eger (born December 31, 1932 in Johanngeorgenstadt ) is a German radiologist and cardiologist .

Life

Eger comes from the Saxon Erzgebirge and attended today's Bertolt-Brecht-Gymnasium in Schwarzenberg / Erzgeb. After the Second World War he studied in Berlin and Erfurt . As a specialist in radiology and radiation medicine, he worked at the Medical Academy in Erfurt until 1974. During this time he did his doctorate and habilitation. Although he was appointed professor for border areas of biomedical technology at the TU Ilmenau , he went to the central clinic in Bad Berka as chief physician . From 2000 to 2002 he was the deputy head physician in the X-ray department at the Erlabrunn Clinic .

Honors

Eger received numerous awards, including the GDR National Prize, Second Class for Science and Technology in 1984, for his contribution to the development of cardiac surgery in the GDR.

In 2013 he received the University Medal from the Technical University of Ilmenau.

His hometown immortalized him in 2014 with a life-size wooden figure on the world's largest Christmas pyramid made by chainsaw artist Andrej Löchel from St. Wendel . At the city foundation festival in 2017 he was made an honorary citizen of Johanngeorgenstadt.
