Heinz Franke

Heinz Franke (born July 29, 1928 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. For the company sports community (BSG) Einheit Ost Leipzig , he played in the 1953/54 season in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

As a teenager, Heinz Franke played at VfB Leipzig . After the end of the Second World War , VfB fell victim to the general ban on associations imposed by the occupying powers, and Franke continued his football career as a goalkeeper for the sports community in the small town of Rötha near Leipzig. With her he took part in the 1948/49 soccer championship in Leipzig (9th place out of 26 teams). At the beginning of the 1952/53 season he moved to the second-rate GDR league club Einheit Ost Leipzig.

At BSG Einheit Ost, Franke replaced the previous goalkeeper Arno Dörl in 1952/53 and played 19 of the 24 point games. He was one of the pillars of the team that had fought for promotion to the GDR league at the end of the season. In the league season 1953/54 Franke was also part of the Leipzig team with his 22 appearances in the 28 point games played. Although only 26 years old, Franke was no longer a member of the BSG Einheit Ost squad for the 1954/55 season and no longer appeared in higher-class football.
