Heinz Hoppe (racing driver)
Heinz Hoppe (born March 6, 1947 in Apolda ) was a successful motocross driver in the GDR . Hoppe is married and has two children. His brother Wolfgang Hoppe was twice Olympic champion in bobsleigh .
Hoppe, a trained locksmith, made his first attempts at driving on his father Werner's motorcycles at the age of 12. At the age of 16 he joined MC Apolda, but later changed clubs several times. In 1977 he started for the first time as a member of the national team at the side of his role model Paul Friedrichs . On January 20, 1982 he was awarded the GDR title “Master of Sports”. In 1984, Heinz Hoppe switched to MC Wolgast , where he was originally supposed to work as a trainer, but from 1985 he and his sports friend Klaus-Dieter Wissuwa took part in the GDR championship for sidecars until 1988.
