Heinz Prokop

Heinz Prokop (born December 8, 1952 in Koethen ) is a former German handball trainer and handball player.

He started playing handball at Motor Koethen ; up to the age of 30 he was active as a player.

At the age of 18 he took over a coaching position for the first time and trained the E-youth in Koethen. After the reigning coach of the first men's team of HG 85 Koethen failed, Heinz Prokop took over the training of this team, which played in the regional league, in 1994. After his release in Köthen, he took over the training of SV Anhalt Bernburg in January 1997 . From July 1999 to September 2003 he trained again for the HG 85 Köthen team. He then took over the coaching position at SV Concordia Staßfurt , where he stayed for three years and then looked after SV Anhalt Bernburg again until October 2008. From 2009 he trained again the HG 85 Koethen, with which he was relegated to the league in 2011; then he gave up his coaching post there.

His son Christian Prokop also acts as a coach after a playing career and took over the office of national coach of the German national handball team in 2017.
