Heinz Walter (soccer player)
Heinz Walter (born April 23, 1931 ) was a football player in the GDR Oberliga . In the top division of the GDR football association , he played for SC Chemie Halle , with which he also won the cup in 1962.
Walter played until the end of 1960 with the fourth-class company sports community (BSG) activist Amsdorf in the Halle district league . After the BSG had been relegated from the district league at the end of the season, Walter switched to the GDR upper division SC at the beginning of the 1961/62 season, which was played over 39 rounds from March 1961 to June 1962 due to the switch to the summer-spring rhythm Chemistry hall. There was a need for action in Halle because the previous regular attacker Werner Basel had left the club. Trainer Werkmeister put Walter, who was already 30 years old, in the attack line of SC Chemie from the start of the season, whereby Walter did not have a fixed position, but was usually called up in the indoor storm. This tactic also retained coaching successor Heinz Krügel from autumn 1961 on. Only an injury break in the summer meant that Walter only played 33 of the 39 point games. On June 10, 1962, SC Chemie Halle was in the final of the GDR soccer cup . Walter was involved as a half-right striker in the 3-1 win over SC Dynamo Berlin.
In the 1962/63 season, Heinz Krügel took Walter back to midfield, where he usually played on the left. Nevertheless, Walter was able to continue to bring his storm qualities to bear and with eight championship goals he became the top scorer in Halle. He and Helmut Stein were the only players in SC Chemie's 19-man squad who played all 26 point games. In 1963/64, the now 32-year-old had to pay tribute to his age and was only used in six league games. At the end of the season, SC Chemie had to relegate from the league. The GDR league season 1964/65 was the last season for Heinz Walter. With only four point game stakes, he was only marginally involved in the immediate return of Halle in the league. After the successful recovery, Walter said goodbye to high-performance football and returned in 1965 to his former BSG activist Amsdorf. There he finally ended his career as a football player in the fourth class district class.
