Hekling
Hekling (Polish Hejking ; † 26. August 1672 ) was an out Kurland originating German-Balt from the noble Heyking serving the Polish Crown and Major of artillery in the fortress Kamieniec Podolski . In the face of the surrender and capture of the fortress Kamieniec Podolski by the troops of the Ottoman Empire , he blew himself up in the ammunition depot in 1672. Up to 800 people were killed in the explosion, including Colonel Jerzy Wołodyjowski . Both were immortalized in Henryk Sienkiewicz's novel Pan Wołodyjowski (Colonel Wołodyjowski).
