Jerzy Wołodyjowski
Jerzy Wołodyjowski (* 1620 in Maków near Kamieniec Podolski ; † August 26, 1672 in Kamieniec Podolski, then Kingdom of Poland ) was a Polish nobleman who belonged to the Korczak coat of arms . He was in the military service of the Polish crown and was Truchseß of Przemyśl .
He got the cavalry position in the fortress of Kamieniec Podolski from Hetman Jan Sobieski . In 1669 he was promoted to colonel. He died on August 26, 1672 in the fortress of Kamieniec Podolski, during an Ottoman siege , when the ammunition dump was blown up shortly before the surrender by the artillery commander Hekling .
Jerzy Wołodyjowski was immortalized in the novel Pan Wołodyjowski (Colonel Wołodyjowski) by the Polish writer Henryk Sienkiewicz .
