The beach flies (Helcomyzidae) are a family of the two-winged (Diptera) and are assigned to the flies (Brachycera).
The flies of this family are medium-sized and reach a body size of six to ten millimeters. They are characterized by a noticeable third antenna element. They live mainly on seashores, their larvae develop in rotting seaweed .
