Helen J. Nicholson

Helen Jane Nicholson (* 1960 in Northern Ireland ) is a British medieval historian.

Nicholson went to school in Belfast and Oadby and studied at Oxford University (St. Hilda's College). In 1990 she received her PhD from the University of Leicester . Her dissertation on the medieval image of military orders of knights was published in 1993. She is a professor at the University of Cardiff .

Nicholson dealt with warfare in the Middle Ages, military orders such as the Templars (especially in Great Britain), the Knights of Malta and the Teutonic Order, as well as the Crusades.

In 2003/04 she was a scholarship holder of the British Academy and the Levenhulme Trust for the publication of the Templar trial files in Great Britain. In 2007 she co-organized a conference on the Templar Trials at the University of Western Michigan in Kalamazoo (International Congress on Medieval Studies) and at the University of Leeds (International Medieval Congress).

She is a member of the Society for the Study of the Crusades and the Latin East, the Arthurian Society, and the Ecclesiastical History Society.
