Helen Taylor (composer)

Helen Taylor (* 1915 in Salt Lake City ; † October 5, 1950 ) was an American composer, pianist and music teacher.

Taylor studied piano at the McCune School of Music and then earned a master's degree from Columbia University . From 1941 to 1942 she taught at Columbia Teachers College , from 1942 to 1945 she studied at the Juilliard School , where she composed her first symphony. In 1946 she married the pianist Grant Johannesen and returned to Utah. She taught there at the McCune School and continued to compose. Her violin sonata became famous, for which she received a prize from the National Association of Composers and Conductors in 1948 . In addition to other chamber music works, she also composed piano music that was recorded by her husband Grant Johannsen. Helen Taylor died in a car accident in 1950.
