Helen Walsh
Helen Walsh (* 1977 in Warrington near Liverpool ) is an English writer.
Her debut novel "Brass" (German "Millie") was published in her homeland in 2004. Brass is a Scouse expression for prostitutes .
Helen Walsh started taking ecstasy at the age of thirteen and moved to Barcelona at the age of sixteen because she was supposed to be forced into prostitution in Liverpool to finance her drug use.
The strongly autobiographical novel tells in sometimes drastic scenes the story of the young Millie O'Reilly, who experienced the club scene in Liverpool in the late 1990s between sex and drugs.
In the program "Büchermarkt" from Deutschlandradio it was said:
“Millie, Helen Walsh's debut novel, was a huge and much discussed success in her home country Great Britain. Walsh was born in 1977 near Liverpool, where she still lives today. Liverpool is the location of Millie, not the Beatles' Liverpool, but that of the 1990s, when the fast, electronic beats of acid house prevailed and ecstasy pills were the drug of choice. "
