The Helene-Lange-Gymnasium ( HLG ) is a first time in 1935 and 1988, newly established school in Markgröningen in Baden-Württemberg district of Ludwigsburg . The advanced high school with a musical and artistic focus and all-day care is named after the pedagogue and women's rights activist Helene Lange .

School authorities and teaching staff

The Helene-Lange-Gymnasium is supported by the "School Association Helene-Lange-Gymnasium", to which the district of Ludwigsburg and the city of Markgröningen belong. The forerunner of the HLG was the school of the same name with boarding school under the sponsorship of the state of Baden-Württemberg , which in 1988 transferred sponsorship and school grounds, to which the former residential palace , a culture and sports hall and the palace garden belong, to the newly founded school association.

The approximately 350 pupils come mainly from Markgröningen and the municipalities in the Ludwigsburg district. They will be taught by 34 specialist teachers and 15 instrumental teachers in the 2015/16 school year.

concept

The Helene-Lange-Gymnasium is an advanced high school with a musical and artistic focus and all-day care. The general high school begins with grade 7 and leads to general higher education entrance qualification after seven school years in grade 13. There are instrumental lessons from grade 7 for many instruments, which are taught by our own instrumental teacher. Participation in a musical and artistic work group is compulsory for all students in grades 7 to 11. A school library and workrooms with desks or desks are available for the schoolchildren, who are supervised by teachers all day.

Language sequence from grade 7 :

  • English: building on the secondary school grade 6
  • French: Initial classes for secondary school students, support for secondary school students

Musical and artistic profile from grade 9 :

  • 4 hours of visual arts or 4 hours of music in the chosen profile subject
  • 2 hours in the other subject

Course levels : Thanks to the cooperation with the Hans-Grüninger-Gymnasium in Markgröningen, the HLG can offer a wide range of elective core subjects in course levels 1 and 2. Music and fine arts can always be selected as a 4-hour core subject in course levels 1 and 2.

history

HLG from the west: once a Reichsburg, then a residential palace in Württemberg, Oberamt, workhouse, teachers' seminar with an orphanage and boarding school

Building history

Teacher seminar

In May 1873 the former castle, Oberamt building and workhouse were handed over to the Royal Teachers' College in Markgröningen with an attached orphanage, which was also intended to be used for training purposes. The “girls schoolmaster” Johannes Buhl established a forerunner institution in Ludwigsburg in 1855. In 1917 the orphanage was closed. The seminar for teachers was operated until 1935 and then transferred to the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences.

Advanced school with internat

From April 1935 until the war-related liquidation in March 1945, the “Markgröningen Advanced School” with boarding school for talented primary school students was operated in the building complex of the former castle. After the 7th grade, they could move to Markgröningen and take their final exams here. After the school had served to accommodate liberated prisoners of war and Allied forces, the school was again used as a boarding school for prospective teachers from July 1946 to 1950. Then a state-owned “Aufbaugymnasium mit Heim” was set up again, which in 1954 was renamed the “Helene-Lange School”. In the 1970s, more and more male students were added. The new requirements of the reformed upper level were met in cooperation with the HGG . In 1987 the boarding school was closed. In 1988 the state transferred ownership and the school grounds to the school association founded by the city and district.
