Helga Castellanos

Helga Trude Castellanos , née Bock (born October 30, 1936 in Kassel ) is a German translator for contemporary Latin American literature and a writer.

life and work

Helga Castellanos studied German and Spanish literature in the mid-1950s. She worked for the Goethe Institute in Germany and abroad for 25 years , including as director of the institute in Montevideo , Uruguay (1979–1985) and in La Paz , Bolivia (1985–1991). She has three children.

Helga Castellanos has lived in the Berchtesgadener Land for several years and writes books for adults and children.

As a translator, she was an international for the first time with The tunnel of Ernesto Sabato draw attention to themselves (2010 1969, edition). A close and personal collaboration with numerous well-known authors from Latin America followed, including Ernesto Cardenal (Nicaragua), Jaime Saenz (Bolivia) and Ernesto Sabato (Argentina).

In her current readings, Helga Castellanos works across genres by combining her poetry with music (including the flautist Gunda Veleba and the guitarist Max Reubel) and the visual arts (including the Freilassing artists' guild).
