Helga Hammerschmied

Helga Hammerschmied-Rathgeb (born October 8, 1949 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and employee. She was a member of the Salzburg state parliament from 1991 to 2004 and has been the mayor of the Leogang community since 2004 .

education and profession

Hammerschmied attended elementary school in Leogang from 1957 to 1961 and then switched to secondary school in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer from 1961 to 1964. She then worked from 1964 to 1967 as an administrative clerk at the municipality of Leogang and also completed her B-Matura in 1966 . In 1967 Hammerschmied moved to the Volksbank Salzburg, where she worked as a bank clerk until 1979. In 1979 she switched to agricultural machinery Gruber in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer, where she was employed until 2001.

Politics and functions

Hammerschmied joined the Socialist Party of Austria and was elected a committee member of the SPÖ Leogang in 1980. From 2001 to 2003 she was active as the executive district women chairwoman of the SPÖ Pinzgau and from 2003 to 2007 she was district women chairwoman of the SPÖ Pinzgau. Furthermore, she worked within the party between 1995 and 2005 as deputy district party chairman of the SPÖ Pinzgau and was a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Salzburg. In 1998 she also became a board member of the »Working Group of Social Democratic Community Representatives«. She was involved in local politics in Leogang, where she was sworn in as a member of the municipal council in 1984. In 1994 she took over the office of Vice Mayor of Leogang and rose to Mayor in 2004. Since then, she has been the mayor of the Leogang community. Hammerschmied represented the Social Democratic Party between October 24, 2001 and April 11, 2004 in the Salzburg state parliament. Hammerschmied is the first female SPÖ mayor in the state of Salzburg.
