Helga Niemann

Helga Niemann (born February 7, 1956 in Bonn ) is a German swimmer and Olympic participant. The athlete started for the Swimming and Sportfreunde Bonn in 1905 (SSF Bonn).

Niemann won several German relay championships:

  • 1971: 4 × 100 m dolphin (Team: Helga Mack , Helga Niemann, Myriam Dumont and Monika Buse )
  • 1975: 4 × 100 m back (team: Silke Pielen , Helga Niemann, Myriam Dumont and Karin Bormann ) and 4 × 200 m back (team: Silke Pielen, Helga Niemann, Denise Rosenthal and Karin Bormann)
  • 1976: 4 × 100 m back (team: Karin Bormann, Silke Pielen, Myriam Dumont and Helga Niemann) and 4 × 200 m back (team: Helga Niemann, Silke Pielen, Myriam Dumont and Karin Bormann)

In 1972 she won the individual championship over 400 m medley in 5: 21.8 minutes.

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , she swam a similar time with 5: 21.97 minutes, which was not enough for a final and brought her to 20th place in the prelims.
