The Heliofly was a backpack - gyroplane of Austrian inventor Paul Baumgartl .

history

Baumgartl presented his Heliofly I for the first time at the Vienna Trade Fair in 1946. None of the built prototypes went into production. The inventor Paul Baumgartl was born in Alland in 1920 and died in São Paulo in 2012 .

The construction is carried on the back like a rucksack, has no drive and uses the principle of autorotation in helicopters . The Heliofly was developed to jump from hills or mountains and thus to be able to cover large distances. At 17.5 kg, this backpack gyroplane was easy to carry and put on.

Heliofly III / 57

This backpack helicopter type (English Backpack helicopter ) was designed in 1942 and has two counter-rotating single-bladed rotors that form a coaxial rotor . The rotor is 4.75 m in diameter and weighs 20 kg.

Heliofly III / 59

The first type, which was not designed as a compact helicopter, had a seat on an iron frame with skids as a landing device. A 16 hp motor serves as the drive. This device weighed only 35 kg, the take-off weight was around 120 kg. The rotor diameter was 6.1 m.
