The light brown dwarf beetle ( Oligella foveolata ) is a beetle from the family of dwarf beetles (Ptiliidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 0.5 to 0.6 millimeters. Their elongated body has almost parallel sides, is very finely structured and covered in dusty hair. It is yellowish brown and has only a weak sheen. The head is relatively large and only slightly smaller than the pronotum . This is narrowed across the base and slightly flared at the back. The tips of the wings are light yellowish translucent. The latter are only slightly wider than the pronotum, elongated and largely parallel. They are blunt and broadly rounded at the back. The antennae and legs are pale yellow.

Occurrence and way of life

The species occurs in northern and central Europe and in the Caucasus . In the north, the species is known to central Sweden, southern Finland and northern Russia, in the south the distribution limit is in southern France, northern Italy and Slovakia. The species is not uncommon in Central Europe and is more common in the east than in the west. The animals live under rotting plant material, especially in semi-dry straw manure, in compost heaps and dung, but also in damp leaves.
