The Hellespont Group is a shipping company that specializes in the ocean-going transport of crude oil. The name goes back to the Turkish Dardanelles strait , which was called "Hellespont" in ancient times . The company's headquarters are in Hamburg , with further branches in Piraeus , Singapore and Manila .

The shipping company was founded by Phrixos B. Papachristidis in Canada in the late 1940s. The company began transporting oil in the mid-1950s.

Today's tankers from the Hellespont Group are characterized by high safety standards and special features. An inert gas is located between the double-walled structure of the ship , which is intended to prevent any oil vapors from igniting. In addition, the hull has a three-layer corrosion protection and the deck is painted completely white in order to keep the heating of the cargo from the sun and the evaporation of the cargo as low as possible.
