Helmle & Merzweiler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helmle & Merzweiler was a glass painting workshop in Freiburg im Breisgau .

The workshop emerged from the Freiburg workshop of Lorenz (1783–1849) and Andreas Helmle (1784–1839), which had existed since 1822/23. Lorenz's son, Heinrich (1829–1909), continued the company and in 1875 took Albert Merzweiler (1844–1906) as a partner. In 1893 Heinrich Helmle left the company due to illness. In 1884 Karl Jennes (1852–1924) joined the company and in 1900 took over the artistic direction. Jennes supplied all the designs and boxes for the workshop.

The workshop has been located at Eschholzstraße 96 since 1877, where a spacious workshop has been available since 1883. In 1884 the company had nine employees.
