Helmut Bachmaier

Helmut Bachmaier (* 1946 in Stuttgart ) is a German literary scholar .

Life

Bachmaier studied German, philosophy and history, did his doctorate on Friedrich Hölderlin and qualified as a professor with a thesis on Austrian classical and Viennese modernism .

He teaches as an adjunct professor for modern German literature at the University of Konstanz (humanities section). Bachmaier has edited and commented on works by important authors of the 18th and 19th centuries (including Grillparzer, Stifter). Humor research was another focus of his work (including editor of Karl Valentin's works ).

He was scientific director and is still a scientific advisor to the Tertianum Group (Switzerland) and was a board member (until 2017) and president of the Tertianum Foundation . He was editor-in-chief of the “magazine for generations” and the online newspaper “senline”. His current research interest is in cultural gerontology, a research on aging that is oriented towards cultural studies.
