Helmut Germany

Helmut Germany (born March 25, 1918 in Berlin ; † February 11, 2007 ) was a German table tennis player . Together with Heinz Raack, he won the German doubles championship in 1948.

Athletic career

Germany played in several Berlin clubs. At the age of 12 he joined the TTC Tivoli Heiligenhaus. Later he moved to TSV Wittenau and finally to BTTC Grün Weiß Berlin. He achieved several regional successes, mostly in doubles; several times he was the Berlin master. His greatest success was the German double championship in 1948 in Göttingen. With BTTC Grün Weiß Berlin he was champion of the Oberliga Nord in the 1951/52 season.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s he was still playing in the senior team of the TTC Spandau, and in 2003 he ended his activities.

Style of play

Germany was a defender. He was able to attach stop balls and counter with attacks.

Private

Germany worked as a commercial clerk in the field service of a Berlin company. He was married to his wife Hilde, who was five years his junior, and last lived in Berlin-Staaken .
