Helmut Gründl

Helmut Gründl (* 1963 ) is a German economist and university professor. The main focus of his work is insurance and risk management .

Career

After graduating from the Leopoldinum Gymnasium in Passau in 1983, Gründl studied business administration at the University of Passau until 1989, then did his doctorate and habilitation under Professors Bernhard Kromschröder and Jochen Wilhelm . In 1999 he accepted a call from the Berlin Humboldt University and took over the chair for insurance and risk management named after Wolfgang Schieren . He declined later calls to the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the University of Passau. In August 2010 he accepted an offer from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main to take over the newly created endowed professorship for insurance, insurance supervision and insurance regulation in October of that year.

The focus of Gründl's research and teaching is the risk management of insurance companies, especially with regard to value-based management and risk capital allocation. He also published on pension decisions and products.
