Helmut Hanke

Helmut Hanke (born July 11, 1915 in Zittau ) was a German journalist and author of non-fiction books .

In his youth, Hanke was a member of the Wandervogel movement . After high school he studied in Berlin from 1936 to 1940 economics . He then worked - interrupted by military service from 1943 and subsequent imprisonment in the Soviet Union until 1949 - as a journalist for the magazine Der Volkswirt , the Daily Rundschau and the weekly newspaper Die Wirtschaft . From 1960 he was a freelance writer. He wrote several books on seafaring , some of which were also published abroad. The book "The Seventh Continent", published in 1962, received critical acclaim from the Soviet Union.
