Helmut Hertrampf

Helmut Hertrampf (born April 21, 1911 in Rüstringen ; † April 10, 2003 Wilhelmshaven ) was a German painter .

Life

Helmut Hertrampf discovered his talent for drawing at a young age, but initially studied dentistry in Leipzig after completing his school education . After successfully completing his license to practice medicine and doctorate , he worked as an assistant in a dental clinic from 1935 and set up his own practice in Wilhelmshaven in 1938.

During the Second World War , an intense artistic phase began in which he created a large number of pictures with motifs from his home country. After the Second World War, in addition to his profession as a dentist, he tried to revive art in Wilhelmshaven. In his spare time, he created other pictures with typical North German themes, such as the harbor, folk life, boats and ships. In a competition initiated by the city of Wilhelmshaven on the subject of homeland, he was able to win second prize for a picture with a Rustersiel motif.

Helmut Hertrampf was a member of the Bund Bildender Künstler Gruppe Oldenburg and repeatedly participated in Oldenburg exhibitions. So he took z. B. participated in the 1st autumn exhibition from October 6th to 27th, 1957 in Oldenburg Castle . From July 2 to July 31, 1960, he participated in the Lower Saxony art exhibition in the building of the New High School in Oldenburger Alexanderstraße.

At an exhibition from December 6th to 27th, 1970, selected pictures of his work from the years 1958 to 1970 were shown in the Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven .

Travels to different countries (e.g. Rhodes, North Africa, India, Nepal) have inspired him to create quite different artistic works.

Hertrampf was buried in the Friedenstrasse cemetery in Wilhelmshaven.

His painting spans a broad spectrum. This applies to both the topic and the painting methods. In the development of modern painting, however, he does not occupy a special, independent position. He can be described as a painter who is connected to his homeland, which is particularly evident from the many motifs from Wilhelmshaven and the surrounding area. The website of the city of Wilhelmshaven presents a number of his paintings. His autobiographical book "Mein Weg als Maler" offers an overview of his artistic development. The book contains numerous illustrations of his works. Likewise, his various techniques such as drawings, watercolor and oil painting are listed and illustrated with examples. A large part of his works is in the municipal art collection of the city of Wilhelmshaven.

In addition to painting, Hertrampf published three autobiographical books. In 1984 the first work was published under the title Eine Jugend im Wilhelmshaven . The autobiography tells of Hertrumpf's youth in Wilhelmshaven. Another autobiographical work is the book Mein Weg als Maler 1924–1989. Paintings, drawings and sculptures . The last book published in 1994 was Wilhelmshaven… hit the nerve - a continuation of his childhood memories, which tells about his life beginning in the mid-thirties.

Posthumously

In 2011 Helmut Hertrampf would have been 100 years old. On this occasion, from October 24, 2011, the city's art gallery showed works by the well-known Wilhelmshaven artist, some of which had never been publicly exhibited.
