Helmut Buyer (born September 20, 1924 in Munich ; † May 20, 2014 in Mettmann ) was a German plastics engineer and physicist . He taught for many years at the Technical University of Berlin , where he has been building the plastics technology center since 1973. Buyer also dealt early and intensively with questions relating to the recycling of plastics and organized events for this purpose.

life and work

Helmut Buyer studied technical physics. He received his doctorate in 1952 on the physics of high polymers at the Technical University of Munich and then worked for a long time in industry. In 1973 he was appointed to the Technical University of Berlin, where he took over a chair for plastics technology and built up the new plastics technology center. Buyer and his employees developed, among other things, a new control system for injection molding machines which "automatically adjusts to the respective tool". He also recognized that the combination of thermoplastic and thermosetting plastics has practical advantages in some molded parts.

Buyer supervised a total of 200 graduates and around 60 doctorates.
