Helmut Könning (born November 4, 1952 in Stadtlohn ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He is the mayor of the Münsterland city ​​of Stadtlohn.

Career

Helmut Könning attended high school up to Obersekunda (11th grade), after which he trained as an office clerk in a construction company . He did his military service with the telecommunications battalion in the Hindenburg barracks in Oldenburg . He then worked in the personnel department of a construction company. In the St. Antonius Hospital in Gronau he was head of the personnel department, then deputy head of the central office in Vreden , which was responsible for the Catholic communities in Stadtlohn and Südlohn . From 1982 to 2003 he was administrative director of the Henricus-Stift, an old people's and nursing home, in Südlohn.

Helmut Könning became a member of the CDU in 1989. He has been a board member of the CDU Stadtlohn since 1992 and has been a member of Stadtlohn's city council since 1994.

From 1999 to 2003, Helmut Könning was a city council member and first deputy mayor of Stadtlohn. Since 2003 he has been the full-time mayor of Stadtlohn as the successor to Engelbert Sundermann (CDU). Könning won the election with 55.2 percent of the valid votes. He won re-election in 2009 with 53.7 percent of the valid votes. His third term began in 2014, and he won the election on May 25, 2014 with 58.0 percent of the valid votes.
