Live and act

Kaiser studied psychology in Munich and Berlin. First he worked in a school for the deaf and hard of hearing, then as a child therapist in clinics. Eventually he became a lecturer at a psychoanalytic institute and now works as a freelance psychoanalyst in Freiburg im Breisgau.

Kaiser attributes his career choice as a psychotherapist to the problematic relationship he observed between his parents: “They got used to their hatred.” According to his account, the mother was involved in the emergence of Kaiser's fear of his father: “One of my earliest memories, it must Shortly after the end of the war, the one with two slices of pink, juicy ham, of which the father, as she (mother, note) says, was not allowed to know anything. It had to be a bad father who wouldn't allow you the delicacy, you had to keep secrets from him. But everything good comes from the mother. (...) So began my fear of my father. It was implanted in me by a lonely mother who was disappointed in life and the world. "

Against this background, Kaiser repeatedly addresses the therapist's need for help. Irvin D. Yalom reports on Helmut Kaiser's play fragment Emergency , which deals with the need for help of psychotherapists: The wife of a psychiatrist who does not want to take the necessary help see another therapist and explains her “plan. She urges the therapist to see her husband under the pretext of being a patient and gradually, in the course of her sessions, to look for a way to help him. "

With My Life - Her Dying , he presented a report on the death of his mother, which takes up the topic of dying care using an example of a concrete experience. In 1997 he dedicated a repeated biography to the natural scientist and artist Maria Sibylla Merian . His historical novel Wolfskrieger was published in 2013 .
