Helmut Kalbe (born October 19, 1941 ) was a soccer player in the area of ​​the GDR soccer association . In its first division, the Oberliga , he played briefly for 1. FC Union Berlin .

Athletic career

In 1953, when he was just under twelve, Helmut Kalbe was accepted into the children's soccer team of the East Berlin sports association Buchholz. In 1957, at the age of 16, he joined the junior team of the top club of the GDR Army Sports Association, the ASK Vorwärts Berlin . After he had become eligible to play for the men's area in 1959, Kalbe played in the reserve team of the ASK, with which he was champion of the upper league reserves in 1960. At the beginning of 1961 he joined the fourth-class Berlin district division , the company sports community (BSG) Motor Weißensee .

For the 1964/65 season Kalbe came to the second division TSC Berlin , but was mainly used there in the third class 2nd team. In early 1966 it was taken over by 1. FC Union Berlin, which had been spun off from TSC. At the end of the 1965/66 season he was with Union II East Berlin district champion. Since the 2nd team was not eligible for promotion and Kalbe was not used in 1966/67 in the first team, which had meanwhile been promoted to the league, he played another year in the third division. 1967/68 Kalbe played for one season at SG Lichtenberg 47 in the second-rate GDR league . He then returned to Union Berlin and was now used in the club's league games. Between the 2nd and 13th match day of the 1968/69 season, Kalbe was mainly used as a winger in ten league point games. He played his first league game on August 24, 1968 in the encounter between Sachsenring Zwickau and 1. FC Union (0-1). In November 1968 he was used again in a cup game in the 1st team, after which he was downgraded back to the 2nd team. Kalbe scored his only first division goal on matchday 11 in the local derby against BFC Dynamo (1-1).

After the end of the 1968/69 season, which had ended with relegation for 1. FC Union, Kalbe moved to the Potsdam district division BSG Motor Hennigsdorf for two seasons . In the 1971/72 season he helped the East Berlin BSG Motor Köpenick to the district championship and promotion to the GDR league, but then withdrew from competitive sports at the age of 31. As a recreational footballer, he later played for the East Berlin SG Friedrichshagen (1975–1980).
