Helmut Krasser (Buddhologist)

Helmut Krasser (born April 27, 1956 in Lustenau ; † March 30, 2014 ) was an Austrian Buddhologist and Tibetologist who primarily dealt with the philological publication and reconstruction of Buddhist texts from the epistemological and logical tradition of Buddhism ( Yogacara ).

From 1981 to 1989 he studied Tibetology, Buddhist Studies and Indology at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1989. He completed his habilitation there in 2002 in Tibetology and Buddhist Studies. Since 2007 Krasser has headed the Institute for the Cultural and Intellectual History of Asia (IKGA) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . Krasser was a member of numerous academic associations and co-editor of the Journal of the International Association of Buddhist Studies .
