Helmut Schroff

Helmut Schroff (born May 10, 1901 in Heidelberg ; † March 12, 1945 ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.

Life

Helmut Schroff studied Classical Philology at the University of Heidelberg . Under the guidance of his local teachers, he turned to late antiquity in particular . As early as 1923 he wrote an award paper on Claudian's poem De bello Pollentino , which was awarded on November 23 by the Faculty of Philosophy. This work became Schroff's dissertation, with which he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate .

After the state examination, Schroff worked as a high school teacher in Baden, and around 1931 in Freiburg im Breisgau . From 1937 he worked at the high school in Rastatt. In addition to his school service, he wrote scientific and didactic essays as well as articles for the real encyclopedia of classical antiquity (from 1930 to 1936).

On February 7, 1942, Schroff was called up for military service and had to interrupt his academic and academic career. He fell a few weeks before the end of the Second World War on March 12, 1945.
