Hemaris rubra is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of moth (Sphingidae).

features

The moths have a wingspan of 44 to 58 millimeters. Their wings are almost completely covered with reddish brown scales. The species is that of the genus Hemaris with the lowest proportion of transparent wing areas, apart from Hemaris croatica , in which transparent areas are completely absent. The genitals of the males are similar to those of the males of Hemaris croatica and Hemaris tityus , but the process of the right saccule is longer.

Occurrence and way of life

The diurnal species has so far only been proven in a few valleys of Kashmir . It inhabits flower-rich meadows around 2500 meters above sea level. One generation flies each year from mid-June to early August. Nothing is known about the further way of life, as well as about the pre-imaginal stages and the parasitoids. Presumably the species overwinters as a pupa .
