Hen Ogledd
Yr Hen Ogledd is Welsh and means "The Old North". It describes the late antique British kingdoms in what is now northern England and southern Scotland .

These kingdoms, which emerged after the Romans withdrew in 410 , experienced their heyday in the 5th and 6th centuries. The inhabitants of these kingdoms were known as Gwŷr y Gogledd, or men from the north .
In the following period, these lands were either wiped out or, after constant attacks by the Angles , were incorporated into the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of Bernicia and Deira from the 6th century onwards . These in turn went on in the following period in the Kingdom of Northumbria .
