Hendrik Godfried Duurkoop ( nl. : Hendrik Godfried Duurkoop * 5. May 1736 Dornum , onetime Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation , today's Germany ; † 27. July 1778 at sea) was for the VOC director of the trading post Dejima in Japan . He died on the way from Batavia to Dejima on board the VOC ship Huis ter Spijk .

Hendrick Dürkopp was the son of Hendrick and Lucia Carolina Dürkopp . He was born at a time when the Harlingerland was repeatedly hit by catastrophic storm surges . Therefore, many Harlingerlanders hired as seamen or as soldiers like Dürkopp's brother Jan Andries in 1743 with the VOC. In 1754 Hendrick traveled to Amsterdam to also work with the VOC. He swore the oath of loyalty on December 31, 1754 on board the ship Overnes and went with him as an auxiliary sailor to Batavia, where the ship arrived on June 29, 1755.

Hendrick Dürkopp met his brother in Batavia, who had been a lieutenant in the local garrison since 1751. Hendrick became an assistant businessman in 1756 and Dutchized his name to Duurkoop. In July 1759 he was transferred to Japan to the Dejima branch. Here he was appointed a merchant in 1761, an accountant in 1769, an authorized officer in 1770 and a warehouseman in 1773. On November 3, 1776 he became director of the branch.

In January 1777 he made the annual trip of the factory manager to Edo . Dennis de Graf from the Netherlands found the description of the trip and his diary ( Daghregister ) in the VOC archives and evaluated it.

On October 11, 1777, he set out with the Seeduyn for Batavia, which he reached in December 1777. After discussions with the directors, he started his return journey in June 1778 at Huis ter Spijk , on which he presumably died of malaria.
