Henk van Stee (born December 17, 1961 in Rotterdam ) is a former Dutch football player and today's coach . He is currently the youth coordinator for the Russian first division club Zenit Saint Petersburg .
Player career
As a professional football player, Henk van Stee worked for Sparta Rotterdam and VBV De Graafschap Doetinchem between 1985 and 1990 . On December 15, 1985 he made his debut in the Eredivisie in the 2-1 away win of Sparta Rotterdam over FC Twente Enschede . By 1989, he and his team were regularly placed in the midfield of the top Dutch league. In the 1989/90 season van Stee played for VBV De Graafschap in the Eerste Divisie , the second Dutch division.
Coaching career
As an assistant coach of his former club Sparta Rotterdam, van Stee began his coaching career in 1990. In April 1995, after the resignation of Han Berger, he briefly took over his duties as head coach before a new coach, Henk ten Cate , was introduced for the new season . At his side he was then again assistant coach before he was introduced as a coach at the second division club VVV Venlo in 1996 . As fourth in the table he reached the play-off games with his team, which should end in a disaster. In six games, Venlo did not reach a single point and conceded 22 goals. In the following season, van Stees team was only eleventh and therefore did not take part in the promotion games. After his time in Venlo he went back to his hometown Rotterdam. At Feyenoord Rotterdam , he took on the post of junior coordinator for almost two years. After the departure of Leo Beenhakker van Stee was used on April 10, 2000 as an interim trainer at the then reigning Dutch champions.
In the same year he took over the coaching position of the first division club AZ Alkmaar , which he filled out until October 2002 and was then replaced by Co Adriaanse . He then worked as a trainer at Excelsior Rotterdam , the former Feyenoord farm team . The club played a season in the top Dutch division at that time. As a result, he was already employed by all three major football clubs in his native Rotterdam. After that he was employed again at the Feyenoord Youth Academy. In 2006 the Dutchman left his homeland for the first time and became the youth coordinator at the traditional Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk . For the 2008/09 season, however, van Stee returned to the Netherlands and coached his former club and first division club VBV De Graafschap Doetinchem . After the club just managed to escape relegation in the previous season, the new coach did nothing to change the predicament. De Graafschap had another bad season under van Stee and he was given leave of absence as a coach in February 2009.
Since September 2009 he has headed the football academy of the Russian first division club Zenit Saint Petersburg .
