Hennessy [ ɛnsiː ] is a Cognac - distillery based in Cognac ( France ). It is a subsidiary of the luxury goods group LVMH .

history

Hennessy Cognac Distillery

The company is run by the eighth generation of the Hennessy family. The company was founded in 1765 by the officer Richard Hennessy, who immigrated to Cognac from Ireland in the 18th century and initially only traded. It was only his son James Hennessy who started distilling. The first products were exported overseas as early as 1794. The name of the company has been "Jas Hennessy & Co." since 1813.

Under the leadership of Kilian Hennessy , Hennessy merged with the champagne maker Moët et Chandon in 1971 . In 1987, this coalition merged Moët Hennessy with the handbag manufacturer Louis Vuitton to become the global leader in the luxury goods industry, Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH).
