Henriette Sophie Forchhammer , known as "Henni" ( March 8, 1863 in Aalborg - May 31, 1955 in Frederiksberg ) was a Danish language teacher and well-known women's rights activist .

Life

Forchhammer studied linguistics and was a student of the linguist Otto Jespersen . She wrote language textbooks for Italian, English and Danish.

In 1899 she was a co-founder of the Danish Women's National Council Danske Kvinders Nationalråd , was on its board from the beginning and headed this organization from 1913 to 1931. Forchhammer was a co-founder of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom in 1915 and Vice-President of the International Women's Council from 1914 to 1930. From From 1920 to 1937 she was a Danish delegate to the League of Nations . In 1932 Forchhammer received the Gold Medal of Merit.

Henriette Sophie Forchhammer is the third of 13 children of Abigael Marie Bing Ebbesen (1840–1888) and Johannes Nicolai Georg Forchhammer (1827–1909).
