Henning Köhler (* 1951 ) is a German curative educator , child and youth therapist and author .

Life

Henning Köhler worked as a home educator , small class teacher , clinical curative educator and in free youth work . In 1986 he founded the curative-therapeutic outpatient clinic, which has been part of the Janusz Korczak Institute in Nürtingen (JKI) since 1987 . In recent years the JKI has developed into a working group of several practices and advice centers (in Nürtingen, Cologne, Karlsruhe, Heidelberg and Verona). Henning Köhler is a co-founder of the study group for new pedagogy , which u. a. organized educational conferences.

Köhler is critical of the administration of psychotropic drugs in children and adolescents with attention disorders and is a member of the scientific board of trustees of the ADHD conference. His main concern is to look at so-called behavioral children with different eyes. Motto: "Find the gold in the child instead of staring at deficits." He has been accused on various occasions of playing down problems with this attitude. His assertion that psychodiagnostic labels are often superfluous or improper is controversial even in Waldorf education circles, where he is well known.

Köhler is conceptually responsible for several professional training courses in Germany, Austria and Italy, which are primarily aimed at educators and teachers. He works as a curative teacher, child and youth therapist and as an educational advisor in private practice, advises schools and kindergartens, goes on lecture tours at home and abroad and publishes in various magazines. He is visiting professor at the Alanus University (Alfter) and has been a columnist for the magazine erziehungskunst for almost ten years . Henning Köhler's books have been translated into twelve languages.
