Henning Swyn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henning Swyn (* around 1502 in Lehe ; † October 8, 1533 ibid) was a councilor in Lunden in the peasant republic of Dithmarschen .

Life

His father Peter Swyn and his son Marcus Swyn were forty-eight in the farming state of Dithmarschen . Even after the “ last feud ” over Dithmarschen, the Swyn family has shaped the fate of the country.

The Swynen, which were first mentioned in a document in 1329, together with the Nannen, whose first mention dates back to 1386, formed the Wurthmann family .

Important dates in the life of Henning Swyn:

  • 1524 murder of the reformer Heinrich von Zütphen . Although his father, Peter Swyn, advises against a hasty conviction, a conspiracy ensues. In addition to the Wurthmann Peter Nanne , Henning Swyn is also significantly involved .
  • 1527 From this year, Henning Swyn, as an elderly man, has received an accountability report for the Pantaleonsgilde Lunden, founded in 1508 .
  • 1529 Under the influence of the forty-eight people Peter Swyn and Peter Nanne, Lunden was granted town charter. In the same year, Henning Swyn becomes "First Councilor" and introduces a "City Book" for the administration of the correspondence.
  • 1533 The chronicler of Dithmarsch and forty-eight Johann Russe , Henning Swyn's cousin, received the records after his death.

Others

The saying “ That doesn't know a pig ”, which is still used in High German today , is traced back to the Swynen sex. Since he (and the Swynes) was said to have a special level of education, he arose from the Low German saying “ Dat weet keen Swyn ” in the sense that if the fact is not familiar to an educated man like Peter Swyn, then nobody is can know.

In this context, a commemorative plaque refers to Marcus Swyn , son of Henning Swyn. After the end of the peasant republic in Dithmarschen, all ownership documents were to be certified by Landvogt Marcus Swyn. If the papers had become illegible, one noticed: “Not even a Swyn can read that anymore. - Dat can't read Swyn. "
