Henri-Emmanuel de Roquette (* 1655 , † March 4, 1725 in Paris ) was a French Roman Catholic clergyman, commendatarabbot and member of the Académie française .

life and work

Henri-Emmanuel de Roquette, who holds a doctorate in theology, was the nephew of Gabriel de Roquette, 1666–1702 Bishop of Autun . Because of his extraordinary eloquence, he became court preacher and in 1699 Commendatabbot of the monastery of Saint-Gildas-en-Rhuys . He had literary interests and was shown in the Salon of Madame Lambert . The Académie française, depending on the benevolence of the court, elected him in 1720 (seat no. 38). He died five years later at the (presumed) age of 70. Apart from occasional speeches, there are no writings from him. His funeral address to the English King James II, who died in France, was translated into English and was published in London in 1703 and 1713.
