The Department of History of Science, headed by Aldo Mieli and founded in 1929, was important for the establishment of the subject in France. For Berr, the history of science was an important discipline for the integration of the natural sciences and the humanities. The headquarters of the society with its library in the mezzanine of the Hotel de Nevers became the meeting place for science historians in Paris, and their activities resulted in theAcadémie internationale d'histoire des sciences .
