Henri Louis Anne van Wijk

Henri Louis Anne van Wijk (born October 24, 1909 in The Hague ; † September 17, 2001 in Katwijk ) was a Dutch Romanist , Hispanic and Lusitanist .

life and work

Van Wijk, nephew of the Leiden Slavist Nicolaas van Wijk (1880–1941), studied French and Spanish in Amsterdam , Coimbra and Poitiers . He received his doctorate in 1946 from Jonas Andries van Praag at the University of Amsterdam with the thesis Contribución al estudio del habla popular de Venezuela . From 1939 to 1955 he taught at the Rotterdam School of Economics, from 1949 to 1954 at the University of Groningen and from 1955 as a lecturer for Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Leiden , from 1979 until his retirement in 1980 as a professor.
