Henri Magne (born May 9, 1953 in Brive-la-Gaillarde , France , † June 5, 2006 in Ouarzazate , Morocco ) was a French rally driver .

Life

Henri Magne began his motorsport career in 1973 at the Formula 3 school in Magny-Cours . In 1982 he took part in his first Dakar Rally and finished twenty-first in the overall standings, but won the diesel category. In 1985 he was a passenger in a support truck of the Mitsubishi Motors factory team and came ninth in the truck rankings . Henri Magne received a career boost in 1988 by his second place in the Dakar Rally at the side of Kenjirō Shinozuka . In 1997, Magne won the Dakar Rally for the first time with Shinozuka and Mitsubishi Motors, which he won again in 2000 with Jean-Louis Schlesser .

Henri Magne lived in Andorra and was one of the most successful co-drivers in rally raid sport. In his long career he collected 27 individual victories and 72 podium places in a total of 87 appearances. He has contested the Dakar Rally 25 times alone. Magne was co-pilot and navigator for Hiroshi Masuoka , Pierre Lartigue , Bruno Saby , Jean-Pierre Fontenay , Kenjiro Shinozuka, Jean-Louis Schlesser, José Maria Servia , Carlos Sousa and Luc Alphand, among others .
