Henricus Johannes van Buul

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henricus Johannes van Buul (* 1795 - 13 July 1862 in Amsterdam ) was the sixth Old Catholic Bishop of Haarlem .

Life

Van Buul was ordained a priest in 1822 . In 1842, after the death of his predecessor Johannes Bon , he was elected Bishop of Haarlem without the consent of the Dutch government and was consecrated as a bishop on May 10, 1845. The Clerisië , as the Old Catholic Church was called at that time, immediately reported the election and consecration to the government and received the answer that the king had "displeased" this and that he could therefore neither recognize the consecrated as bishop nor grant him a salary. It was not until 1853 that van Buul was fully recognized as Bishop of Haarlem by the Dutch government.
